“La Perla” - Space for Memory & Promotion of Human Rights, Córdoba
More than 2500 people were disappeared from La Perla, making it one of the largest extermination sites in the country.
It was not expropriated from the Army by provincial law until 2006. Though it is now a memorial site and museum, its remote location makes it not as popular as a destination, compared to ESMA, for example. A driver who took me there, a young man who was in the Argentine Air Force and often worked next door commented that our trip was the first time he had been there.
The photos from my visit were taken in December 2024. Less than a year later, the remains of 12 disappeared persons would be found here, identified recently in March 2026.
This continued relevance of the site over 50 years after the dictatorship began shows the importance of preservation for the goals of Memory, Truth, and Justice.
