Casa de Los Conejos / Casa Mariani Teruggi, La Plata
Casa de Los Conejos is unique in that though spatially relevant, it was not a former clandestine detention center. Instead, it was a headquarters for members of the militant, left-wing Montoneros Group. On November 24, 1976, it was raided and its 6 adult residents killed in a violent shootout, the results of which can still be seen on the walls of the house today. 3 month old Clara Anahí survived, was taken alive, and remains missing to this day.
Today, the house is also referred to as Casa Mariani Teruggi and is preserved in its original state as a museum with limited access on Saturdays. Though I visited during its limited opening hours in June 2025, it was unfortunately closed, perhaps a sign of the vulnerable state of memorial sites that rely on volunteer labour and especially of those that preserve the political agency of the dictatorship's victims.
